Drones are increasingly being used in industry, logistics, surveying, and public safety. At the same time, they can also be used for reconnaissance, disruption, or the deliberate targeting of companies and critical infrastructure.
The resulting challenges were the focus of a joint webinar hosted by VBKI DIGITAL and the Digitalagentur Berlin. Frank Wernecke, CEO of DroneMasters, outlined a range of potential threat scenarios and explained why traditional security concepts often fall short.
While company premises, buildings, and access points are usually well protected, the airspace above a site is often overlooked.
One of the key challenges is that drones can be small, relatively inexpensive, and difficult to detect reliably. A comprehensive security strategy should therefore not begin and end with the selection of technical detection or counter-drone systems.
Clear responsibilities, trained employees, legally compliant procedures, and well-practiced response plans are equally important. Organizations need to know how to assess a drone sighting, whom to notify, and how to respond in a coordinated manner without creating additional risks.
